Tips to avoid silly workplace errors.

How many of you have been so impulsive that you sent an email to the wrong person or with the wrong information? Maybe you made a big mistake with your spelling and now you are embarrassed. Or you did something quickly just to check it off your list only to realize you made way too many errors. These are just some of the scenarios I hear from my clients and let’s be honest they are scenarios I’ve also been in many times myself.

The reason I bring it up is that you are definitely not alone.

Adults with ADHD and/or learning disabilities, unfortunately, have to do a lot of overcompensating to make what some might feel as the simplest task to complete. But for us they tend to be the tasks we avoid the most because we have no interest in them or maybe they are just flat-out boring.

So here are 3 of my favorite tips to avoid some of those typical workplace errors.

  1. Creating clear boundaries with your boss and co-workers. If you are answering emails at 7am until 11pm at night or working while you are on vacation that is truly a recipe for disaster. You are burning the candle at both ends. If you are more exhausted and burnt out then you will make more mistakes. One way to create a clear-cut boundary is by setting your email to automatically send out-of-office responses after hours letting them know you’ve seen their message and will have a response by the following business day.

  2. Take breaks! Everyone needs breaks but you need them even more than most. If you see you are about to have back to back to back meetings, give yourself at least 15-30 mins in between so you can go to the bathroom, get a snack, or just simply stand up and go anywhere but your desk.

  3. Download Grammarly and Speechify these apps are among my absolute favorites and I believe should be added to everyone's computers, phones and internet browsers. Grammarly helps you avoid sending documents with spelling errors, poor grammar and even lets you know the tone of your emails. Speechify reads everything to you which can make it so much easier to follow along with big documents or emails. You can even scan something in person and have it read it to you.

Which tip will you try and implement first? I’d love to support you in feeling confident and cape-able.
